Act One wants to keep all those interested in the school's programs, updated on the school's upcoming events, Theatre Summer Camp registration and other activities.
The topics below include both new information and some of the most common subject areas that we have been asked about over the past two months:
For all the students and their families who participated in one or more of this year’s “Weekend of Monologue” shows, I am happy to announce that all the student performance videos have now been posted to the Student Gallery section of the school website.
They are available for viewing and/or download at the Student Gallery section of the school website
Please note that anyone wishing to download their video must first contact me at the school, so I can give them the special download link. This process is to ensure that only someone authorized by the student and/or their family can do so.
The instructors and I are excited that by this weekend, all classes will have decided upon their year-end performance pieces. Following this, we will be commencing the process of determining the year-end performance date for each class. These dates will all be before the end of June. Classes never normally extend into July. This task is expected to be completed by mid-May and the date for each class performance announced then.
Students and their families will shortly receive more information on this via e-mail.
For anyone considering one of Act One’s four 2-week Theatre Summer Camp sessions, for ages 5-14, please be advised that we are now over 65% full. As of April 27/23, Session I currently only has 3 open spots left. Based on current registration and past year’s trends, the other three will likely fill up by end of May. Session dates, other information and on-line registration can be found on the school website in the Summer Camps section.
For 2023, the theatre summer camp sessions are:
All current and previous Act One students and/or campers receive a 5% discount off 2023 theatre summer camp fees. Also, any new camper referred by an existing student or previous summer camper, can receive the 5% Referral discount. This discount would also apply to the referring person if they were also planning to attend one of the camp sessions. These discounts are cumulative.
For all those who have already registered and anyone considering doing so, please be reminded that the deadline for receiving the additional 5% Early Registration discount is April 30th. Camp fees paid in full by this date qualify for the early registration discount. Fees can also be paid at any point after this date, up until the day before the session starts, however the Early Registration discount would no longer apply.
Each summer, as part of the theatre summer camp program, Act One has the pleasure of offering a number of opportunities for high school-aged students to participate as counsellors-in-training during one or more of the schools Theatre Summer Camp sessions.
These are volunteer positions in that they are not paid, however they do qualify towards any student requiring community service hours for completion of high school and for each session a student participates in as a CIT, they will qualify for a 25% discount off the fees for one class in the 2023/24 school year.
For more information, anyone interested should contact the school in the near future, as positions are allocated in May.
A quick reminder to students and campers from previous years who may wish to revisit their past performances in any Act One class or camp program, that videos from almost every student performance, dating back to 2010 can be viewed on the school website or requested from the archives.
All post-pandemic student performances can be found directly in the Student Gallery section of the school website. Pre-pandemic performances have not yet been posted to the website. These can be obtained by e-mailing the school.
I hope the above information helps answer many of the common questions I have had over the past couple of weeks and keeps everyone updated with respect to Act One's current and planned future actions for the rest of this school year and into the summer.
If anyone has any questions regarding this update or any other topic, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Mark Nathanielsz
