Adult Improvisation Drop-in Sessions


Hosted by faculty improv instructor Steve Hobbs, each bi-weekly drop-in class session is fully separate from our year-long programs, offering a fun 90-minute classroom experience with a special emphasis on catering to adults with less improv/comedy experience! Focusing on key improv concepts such as accepting ideas, making choices, and play in general, these Sunday evening sessions offer participants a chance to connect and build confidence through games and scene work while learning more about themselves.

Drop-In Session Fee Information

  • 1.5hr Session Fee Options:
    • Single Person Rate: $17.50 (HST Included) per person if paying in advance (Interac e-transfer) and registering solo.
    • Come With A Friend Rate: $15 (HST included) per person if paying in advance (Interac e-transfer) and registering more than one person at the same time.
    • Pay at the Door: $20 (HST Included) per person (cash only) if paying at the door.
  • 2hr Session Fee Options:
    • Single Person Rate: $22.00 (HST Included) per person if paying in advance (Interac e-transfer) and registering solo.
    • Come With A Friend Rate: $18.75 (HST included) per person if paying in advance (Interac e-transfer) and registering more than one person at the same time.
    • Pay at the Door: $25 (HST Included) per person (cash only) if paying at the door.
  • Payment Options: Interac E-transfer (in advance) or cash at door

Drop-In Session Registration (Updated as of May 1/26)

  • Attendees are asked to RSVP on-line via info@actonedrama.com or phone (905) 420-8120 by no later than Noon on the day prior to the scheduled session date.
  • Participants can register for up to two sessions at anyone time.
  • Please be advised that registrations are not considered secured until payment is received. Should a session become full, unpaid registrations can be replaced by newer registrants who are willing to secure their participation through advance payment. Act One will strive to advise all registrants if and when a session becomes full, but ultimate responsibility lies with the registrant as to when they choose to secure their registration.
  • Registered participants will receive an e-mail a couple of days prior to the scheduled session, confirming if it will be running or not.
  • Last-minute (ie less than 24hrs before session start), unregistered participants wishing to attend a sesison are asked to call in advance to confirm the session is running as planned and that there is still space.

Drop-In Session Waitlist

  • For any session that has become full, additional interested parties can request to be placed on the session waitlist.
  • Should a session spot become open due to a registrant cancelling, Act One will offer the now open spot to those on the waitlist, before making it available to the general public.
  • Open spots will be offered, if/as they arise, by e-mail, to those on the waitlist. Individuals will have 24 hours to respond. Open spots will be allocated in chronological order, based on when the individual's waitlist request was received.
  • Waitlist individuals offered an open spot will have 24hrs to secure the spot via payment. If payment is not received, the spot will be offered to the next individual on the waitlist.

Drop-In Session Important Details

  • Session Cancellation: A scheduled session requires a minimum of 6 registered participants in order to run. Any session with less than this 24hrs prior to session start may be cancelled. In such cases, Act One will endeavour to notify all registered participants by e-mail.
  • Refund Policy:
    • Paid participants for a session that is cancelled by Act One will be given the option of a full refund or to have the payment applied to a future session of their choice (subject to space availability).
    • Paid participants requesting cancellation must do so via e-mail to info@actonedrama.com. 
    • Cancellations received more than 3 days (72hrs) prior to the session start will receive a full refund.
    • Cancellations received between 24-72hrs prior to session start are NOT eligible to receive a refund but will automatically have the payment applied as a credit towards any future session of the registrant's choice (subject to space availability).
    • No refunds or credits will be issued for any cancellations received less than 24hrs prior to the session start.
  • Difference Between Improvisation Drop-in and Class: The class format offers a more immersive and detailed exploration of Improvisation through both a structured classroom environment and mulitple performance opportunities. The drop-in sessions are a less formal, more social opportunity to experience Improvisation without the pressure of a longer term commitment or live performance, for those who may not feel ready for it.
  • Adult Improvisation Class Credit: For any drop-in participant who may wish to join the regular Adult Improvisation class at some point during the year, not only are the class fees pro-rated to reflect when a student joins, but we will also apply the equivalent of the fees they paid for up to 3 drop-in sessions participated in over the previous 90 days, as a credit towards the class fees.
