Adult Improvisation Drop-in Sessions

Act One now offers Adult Improvisation drop-in sessions.

Hosted by Steve Hobbs, the school's resident Improvisation instructor, each session offers a fun 90-minute improvisational classroom experience catering towards those with little or no experience doing Improv or who are just seeking a fun, social option for their Sunday evenings! Focusing on key improv concepts such as accepting ideas, making choices, networking, and play in general, these sessions offer the opportunity for participants to not only experience the world of improvisation, but also gain confidence in public settings and most importantly, learn more about themselves.

The drop-in format is designed for those who are interested in exploring this aspect of drama but whose schedules may not provide the flexibility to commit to a year long program. Offered twice a month, attendance is entirely at the participant's discretion. Whether coming regularly to each one, taking part for the first time or on a more occasional basis, these sessions aim to provide all participants with a fun and rewarding experience every time.

2024-25 Drop In Session Schedule and Other Details

Hosted by faculty improv instructor Steve Hobbs, each bi-weekly drop-in class session is fully separate from our year-long programs, offering a fun 90-minute classroom experience with a special emphasis on catering to adults with less improv/comedy experience! Focusing on key improv concepts such as accepting ideas, making choices, and play in general, these Sunday evening sessions offer participants a chance to connect and build confidence through games and scene work while learning more about themselves.

  • Refund Policy: Participants paying in advance for a session that is cancelled by Act One can either request a full refund or to have the payment applied to a future session of their choice. Participants who have paid in advance for a session they can no longer attend, can request a refund if more than 48hrs prior to the session start, or automatically have the payment applied as a credit towards any future session.
  • Difference Between Improvisation Drop-in and Class: The class format offers a more immersive and detailed exploration of Improvisation through both a structured classroom environment and mulitple performance opportunities. The drop-in sessions are a less formal, more social opportunity to experience Improvisation without the pressure of a longer term commitment or live performance, for those who may not feel ready for it.
  • Adult Improvisation Class Credit: For any drop-in participant who may wish to join the regular Adult Improvisation class at some point during the year, not only are the class fees pro-rated to reflect when a student joins, but we will also apply 50% of any drop-in fees paid for previous sessions as a credit towards the class fees.
